Please sign this petition to get Hounslow's Cabinet to STOP destroying Chiswick, to STOP their Streetspace schemes, and to WORK with residents of Chiswick.

Over the past 2 years whilst the country, including Chiswick have been dealing with Covid, Hounslow's Streetspace projects have been destroying Chiswick. Over 80% residents have consistently voted against these schemes. Even critics within the Council have asked the Cabinet to think again and listen to residents.

These schemes:-

• Are complex and confusing and deliberately divide the community into small, subscale areas
• Have stopped Chiswick residents going about their daily lives - residents can no longer take a direct route to neighbouring areas
• Have deliberately ignored the human rights of residents, particularly the vulnerable, young, elderly, disabled and their carers - frequently, they simply cannot walk nor cycle
• Have resulted in Hounslow Council pocketing £m's in fines, many from residents travelling about their neighbourhood
• Have meant that taxis, couriers, delivery vehicles, tradesmen (like plumbers, electricians etc.), are refusing to enter the area - they are so afraid of being fined
• Have forced long established businesses to close and leave, and continue to threaten the viability of many more 
• Have increased congestion and thus, pollution on the arterial routes, and impeded residents entry and exit to the area
• Have produced an unsightly street environment - for instance,  red and white plastic barriers errected in conservation areas.

There is little evidence of the schemes achieving their objectives of reducing short distance car journeys, improving air quality, reducing congestion and encouraging more cycling and walking.

These experimental schemes have failed residents across Chiswick and we have told the Council in their own consultations that we want the Streetspace programme stopped and reversed.

Yet the Council presses on, Council Leader Steve Curran and Cabinet colleagues Hanif Khan, Katherine Dunne, Guy Lambert are failing in their duty of care to all residents. Their actions are threatening to breach public trust. The Council have not followed proper, evidence based procedures and decisions, and they have abused their position of power.

Worse, Council Leader Steve Curran has made vitriolic, public insults calling some people of Chiswick 'irrelevant' and 'desperate' - the very people he is paid to serve. He and his Cabinet members ignored their own Overview & Scrutiny Committee that told him and his Cabinet to think again and listen to the people of Chiswick. They should.

Please sign this petition to get Hounslow Council's Cabinet to 

• Stop destroying Chiswick
• Stop all Streetspace projects, and 
• Work with the residents of Chiswick.
