Stop homeless sweeps in Denver

The Issue

Everyday I drive through Denver for a weekly appointment. Lining the streets are rows of tents, at stoplights and corners there are people with signs asking for donations. The homeless population of Denver is enormous and only continues to grow as housing prices increase. As if surviving on the street wasn't enough the homeless of Denver are often victims of sweeps, a procedure where the Denver Police Department will aggressively uproot them and force them away. This is because of the "No Unauthorized Tenting" law, a law whose purpose is to remove the homeless from the housed line of sight. This is cruel and unethical. This petition aims to stop that; the lawmakers of Colorado need to take action and remove this law. If there is nothing done to help then more and more homeless people will continue to die at extremely high rates. The winter is coming and for those who are not fortunate to have homes that means battling death every night. Lets get lawmakers to take a stand and help the homeless populaton by removing the "No Unauthorized Tenting" law.
