I want to update everyone on recent community actions to oppose the Home Depot Development project.  A small grassroots group is forming to coordinate the community efforts in opposing the big box store.  To fight Home Depot we need concrete data to support our position that HD will negatively impact our neighborhood. Specifically, an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) of the proposed development site.  Please take a few minutes to send an email to City Planning requesting that an EIR be a requirement for Home Depot's application.  The following is sample language for your email:

I am writing to oppose Home Depot's application to develop a new 135,000 sq. ft. big box store at the Granada Hills (North Hills) Shopping Center. As a resident of the community, I am concerned that this proposed project will negatively impact mine and the community's quality of life with the increase of traffic and the proposed hours of 6am to 10pm.  This development will be within 49 feet from adjacent single-family and multi-unit residences.  Of further concern is the location being situated 1/2 mile from Mayall Elementary School and two high schools.

I am requesting Los Angeles City Planning require Home Depot's application include an Enviornmental Impact Report (EIR).  There is sample case law establishing precedent under the Fair Argument Standard that it is warranted to require an EIR before the application proceeds.  The EIR must include the unique hazards posed by the contamination at the HD project site on air quality and health-risk-based emissions standards to sensitive receptors including schools, schoolyards, parks and playgrounds, daycare centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and residential communities.

Additionally, this proposed development of a big box store is in direct conflict with the Granada Hills Specific Corridor and the proposed HD arguably undermines the protection provided with the updates Granada Hills Community Plan Section 5A. states that the following uses shall be prohibited in all Sectors: Open Storage Areas, Cargo/Storage Containers and Storage Buildings for Household Goods.

Please add my objection and request of a EIR to the case application file.

Thank you.
