Stop hit-and-run incidents involving cats

Stop hit-and-run incidents involving cats
The Issue
Two of my beloved cats, cherished members of my family, have been snatched away too soon. Their lives were brutally cut short by careless drivers speeding without a thought for the consequences of their actions. Unlike with dogs, there are currently no laws in place to protect cats on our roads, a gap in legislation that results in countless cats being left for dead. We cannot stand by and allow this injustice to continue.
In the UK, dogs are afforded legal protection that ensures drivers must stop and report any incident where a dog is hit by a vehicle. However, this same legal consideration is not extended to cats, leaving them vulnerable to unnecessary harm and suffering. This discrepancy in the law not only diminishes the value of a cat's life but also leaves grieving pet owners without recourse or justice.
Statistics reveal a worrying trend: an estimated 230,000 cats are hit by cars each year in the UK. Only around 25% of drivers report the accidents, leaving many cat owners heartbroken and without any answers. This is an unacceptable reality and one that needs urgent attention and change.
We are calling for immediate legislative changes to afford cats the same protections as dogs. This includes the requirement for drivers to stop and report any collision with a cat, ensuring that injured cats can receive timely medical attention and that owners can be notified promptly.
By implementing these legal changes, we aim to foster a culture of responsibility and compassion on our roads. Every animal's life matters, and it's time the law reflects that truth.
Join us in our fight for justice and protection for cats. Sign this petition to urge lawmakers to amend current legislation and give our cats the legal protection they deserve.
