Stop Highway 68 Coalition - Keep Laguna Seca Raceway Open

Stop Highway 68 Coalition - Keep Laguna Seca Raceway Open
The Issue
Highway 68 Coalition is currently suing the Famous Race track Laguna Seca Raceway (Weathertech Raceway) and its representatives for supposedly “breaching zoning regulations and the noise level rising and other reasons such as traffic and water.” These reasons are very opinionated and not really relevant complaints when you do research on the history of the Coalition. The coalition was created by Micheal R Weaver who apparently lives just a few minutes from the track. He has sued The track in the past but failed in 2012 according to my research. His Coalition complains the track is a public nuisance even though the track has been there longer than the housing built around it has.
The Coalition was named after an incident where his brother was killed on Highway 68 while trying to chase the family dog. He was hit by a car that was leaving Laguna Seca. This information is very tragic and if it happened my heart goes out to him and his family but the only problem is we don’t know if this is true or not. He could have just made up this story to make people think he’s the victim. I’m not saying it’s untrue but it does seem odd there is barely any info about it and how he uses that as a reason. The other history about the Coalition is unknown so this could just be him or a whole residence in the coalition.
Now I will list off reason why we need to stop Highway 68 Coalition:
•Laguna Seca has been there since 1957 which is way before the housing area which was about I believe was built 10 to 30 years later. So this is just extreme nonsense to complain about something that has been there before you moved there.
•Micheal Weaver/Highway 68 Coalition and their complaints seem almost made up. If you research about the area and if people are complaining, it seems like no one is complaining about the noise, or the traffic.
•The goals of the Coalition seem more personal than professional. If you read or do more research on the backstory, it almost seems like Micheal Weaver wants to remove the racetrack over an incident in the past that wasn’t even their fault. His brother died because of a driver leaving the track. So really the racetrack had nothing to do with it. It was the drivers fault.
•Laguna Seca keeps the street racers from street racing. Street racing is very dangerous and could possibly kill the driver or someone else. Because the racetrack is there this gives street racers the option to go to a track day instead of driving recklessly on the road. This significantly decreases the number of street racers and possibly completely eliminating the problem all together. If the track is limited or removed the street racers will be back driving recklessly.
• Laguna Seca is a historical location and will always be. Laguna Seca is the track that gave birth to some of the greatest Motorsport groups, such as Can Am and IMSA. For people to want to take down Laguna Seca is almost like people wanting to take down the Colosseum because it’s so dirty.
•The events held there are very beneficial for the community there. There is the Monterey motorsports reunion, the Rennsport reunion and more. Lots of these events donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to charity while giving tremendous sights and sounds for all ages. To remove that aspect would make the community lose character and the fun of Carmel and Salinas.
•The utter lies and hypocrisy from Micheal Weaver. His lawyer seems claim he’s doing it for the people not for personal gain or benefit. The problem is his past that he seems to wear like a belt. The way he targets the track Laguna Seca itself is really odd at most. Sanoma raceway is just as popular as Laguna and it’s not getting any reaction from him. He and his Coalition have reportedly gotten angry over Hagerty wanting to get comments from them. Everything seems to point to Micheal being a liar or a hypocrite at best.
•Just moral in general. If we allow these people to win then they will send the message to others that suing people and entities for no good reason is ok.
if we meet our goal, then hopefully we can professionally make Highway 68 Coalition cease operations and keep Laguna Seca open for decades to come.
