Stop High Pool Charges for Welsh Lifeguard Clubs Providing Vital Skills in Water Safety

Stop High Pool Charges for Welsh Lifeguard Clubs Providing Vital Skills in Water Safety

The Issue

Thousands of children are taught essential Life Saving skills each week, free of charge,  by dedicated volunteers around the country. However, all of this good will and good practice is being threatened by ever increasing, pool hire charges levied by Local Authorities and Leisure Trusts.

The safety of children could be at risk if these vital sessions were to cease  due to the extortionate charges of  Local Authorities, of which Neath Port Talbot is a prime example.

With the increasing financial pressure caused by building and maintaining clubhouses, purchase of vital equipment and insurance costs etc, action is urgently required to sustain our FREE and ESSENTIAL service to the public.

We are voluntary clubs and societies being subjected to business like practices and policies when it comes to Pool Hire charges. Over the space of a few short years, our hire costs have nearly DOUBLED!

Help us to ensure that we continue to connect with all young people, no matter where they may come from or what their personal circumstances or background may be.

These are essential life saving and life skills being offered free of charge, by willing, qualified and enthusiastic volunteers. Many of those taught go on to become our pool and beach lifeguards, which in many cases leads to further career interest in avenues such as Paramedics or indeed Doctors.

We are an island nation, what could be more important than the promotion of these essential water based, life saving skills?

Lets make Local Authorities sit up and take notice of this injustice. It's not much to ask for such an invaluable service which can only enhance the standing of any local Leisure Facility.
