My personal situation inspired me to initiate this petition. I am the mother of a child who attends one of these nurseries. Recently, my daughter fell sick three weeks in a row with a tenacious cold that ultimately necessitated a hospitalisation for 4 days. This unexpected event raised my concerns about the health standards at her nursery, specifically the need to keep the nursery's garden door locked throughout the day - a policy not currently in place.

Studies have found that exposure to cold weather  can negatively affect a child's fragile immune system - leading to persistent health problems like cold, flus and even pneumonia (source: Canadian Pediatric Society). These illnesses not only causes discomfort and distress to the children, but can also impose a significant emotional and financial burden on the families involved. By keeping the garden door at nurseries locked throughout the day, especially on days with harsh weather, we can ensure a more controlled and safe environment for our kids.

In conclusion, the current policy allows for a potential health hazard that can be easily avoided. It's necessary that we demand nurseries to implement strict safety measures, including locking the garden door throughout the day, for the benefit of our children's health and well-being.
