Over the past couple of months, Universal Destinations and Experiences have began construction on a brand new Universal theme park resort located in Kempston Hardwick, Bedford, United Kingdom. The park is planned to open by 2031, drawing in millions of guests annually.

Universal theme parks are known for bringing many of their iconic franchises to life through immersive areas, rides, and attractions. One of which is Harry Potter, an IP that Universal owns the rights to, which we have seen come to most of their other parks abroad.

However, the Harry Potter Franchise, although loved by many, was written by JK Rowling, an author who is a self-described transphobe. She has created the JK Rowling Women’s Fund, an organisation she is proudly using to destroy the rights of trans people in the UK. One of the largest sums of her income are directly from Universal, who owns the film rights to the franchise. 

Anyone who consumes any of the Harry Potter franchise, including the books, movies, series, merchandise, and, of course, visiting the theme parks at the Universal resorts, contributes to funding this organisation and other evil anti-trans legislations. 

Although Harry Potter is not confirmed to be coming to the UK resort, it may be highly likely that it is in the plans. Having another Harry Potter theme park, especially in the UK where Harry Potter is from, will contribute massively to JK Rowling’s funding of transphobic organisations and ideologies. 

The Universal resorts should be inclusive and welcoming to everyone, including all trans people and members of the LGBTQ community. That is why I have made this petition - to stop this franchise from creating more demand for the franchise by having another theme park, and to stop further funding of the evil organisations mentioned.

I do hope that this petition will encourage Universal to decide to reconsider their potential Harry Potter plans and bring a different franchise, such as Lord Of The Rings to Bedford instead of Harry Potter. I believe that this resort is still capable of being very successful without any Wizarding World attractions.
