Petition to Judge Karena Kirkendoll: Ensuring Fair Treatment and Justice for Lucas Henderson

 

 

 

We, the undersigned, call upon Judge Karena Kirkendoll of Pierce County Court to ensure fair and just treatment for Lucas Henderson, a 23-year-old man who has been convicted of Arson in the First Degree. We are deeply concerned about the fairness of his legal proceedings, his ongoing detention, and the lack of appropriate care provided during his treatment within the legal system.

 

We respectfully request that Lucas Henderson’s case be reviewed by an impartial authority, to ensure that his rights have been upheld throughout the process and that the court is acting in the best interest of his health and safety.

 

 

 

Background of Lucas Henderson’s Case:

 

 

 

In February 2023, Lucas experienced a severe psychiatric episode, involving hallucinations and delusions. Despite multiple emergency calls for help, emergency intervention was refused, and Lucas was arrested following a small fire caused by unattended candles in a highly flammable environment. At the time, Lucas was in the midst of an untreated mental health crisis.

 

Lucas was placed in Pierce County Jail, where he was subjected to an unmedicated detox, with no understanding of why he was incarcerated or what his charges were. In June 2024, under extreme medication, Lucas was coerced into pleading guilty to Arson 1, waiving his right to a trial. His family repeatedly warned the court of his compromised mental state and inability to comprehend the legal proceedings, yet these warnings were ignored.

 

 

 

Concerns Regarding Judicial Bias and Fairness:

 

 

 

We are concerned that Lucas’ case has not been handled impartially and that decisions made throughout the legal process may not have been in alignment with justice and fairness. Specifically, there are serious concerns about:

 

Inadequate mental health treatment and failure to recognize Lucas’ diminished capacity at the time of the offense.
Withholding of critical evidence, including witness statements and body cam footage, which could have affected the outcome of his case.
The coercion and manipulation Lucas faced during his plea process, which was done while he was heavily medicated, rendering him unable to fully understand the consequences.
