Stop H.R. 4255—Protect the Mexican Gray Wolf from Extinction
The Issue
Right now, one of North America’s most endangered animals—the Mexican gray wolf—is facing a life-or-death threat in Congress.
U.S. Representative Paul Gosar has introduced H.R. 4255, a bill that would strip Endangered Species Act protections from this critically imperiled species. With only 286 wild Mexican gray wolves left in the United States, removing federal protections could erase decades of recovery work and push this iconic predator to the brink of extinction.
This isn’t just bad science—it’s reckless politics. Delisting the lobo would end essential programs that release captive wolves into the wild, stop the tracking that protects their fragile gene pool, cut off compensation to ranchers for livestock losses, and open the door to unregulated killing.
Saving the Mexican gray wolf means protecting a keystone species that helps balance entire ecosystems across the Southwest. Every extinction weakens the web of life we all depend on—once they’re gone, we can’t bring them back.
The Mexican gray wolf has come back from the edge of extinction once. Let’s not let it happen again.
We urge Congress to reject H.R. 4255 and stand with wildlife, science, and future generations. The wild needs wolves—not more political attacks on species already hanging by a thread.
Add your name if you believe this unique and vital animal deserves a future.
