Why this petition matters

Stop Greyhound Racing in Victoria! In Victoria, greyhound racing is not an issue that is discussed as much, but it is still extremely important and it needs to be addressed. Instead of trying to stop these races, Victoria is breaking records in spending $58 million dollars on the 2021-22 season. Greyhound racing injures and kills the dogs at very young ages, some of the common injuries are broken legs, broken backs, head tremors, and electrocution. Not only do these dogs get many injuries on the track but off the track, greyhounds spend their time in small, cramped cages. Overbreeding is another problem that comes with greyhound racing, with many unwanted or insufficient dogs put down. But instead of stopping the breeding of racing dogs, female greyhounds are given harmful drugs so that they can give birth to more pups, leaving them injured and sore for the rest of their lives. Greyhounds race from 18 months to 4-5 years old, after their time is up and if no one adopts them then they, you guessed it, put down. This issue is countrywide, but it is already banned in the ACT, sign the petition to make sure that Victoria follows suit.
