STOP Gas Station Construction at Wash Lee Ct and Killian Hill Rd
The Issue
Living directly adjacent to the proposed gas station site at Wash Lee Ct and Killian Hill Rd in Lilburn, GA, my family and I are facing a dire threat to our safety, quality of life, and financial security. The proximity of this 24-hour gas station, whose border is a mere 25 feet away from our home, comes with numerous risks. Not only would it significantly decrease my home value, causing major personal financial loss, but the constant noise and glaring lights from the convenience store will disrupt our lives day and night.
The proposed gas station poses significant safety concerns for my home and the neighborhood. Positioned near a residential area, the risks of increased traffic congestion and accidents escalate, endangering pedestrians, especially children and seniors. A study by the American Automobile Association highlights that traffic congestion can increase the risk of accidents by as much as 30%, a threat our community cannot afford.
Additionally, gas stations carry a high risk of crime and drug activity. Foot traffic from people who do not live in my neighborhood will increase, putting strangers within a pebble's throw from my home at all times. This is not a risk I can mitigate, and my children's outdoor play will no longer be safe. There is also a childcare facility directly across the street that will be rendered far less safe with the added foot- and automobile traffic, along with 24-hour alcohol sales.
Furthermore, the environmental impacts cannot be ignored. The potential for gas spills and underground leaks poses long-term health risks to residents and could contaminate local groundwater supplies. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, gasoline releases harmful volatile organic compounds into the air, affecting air quality and public health.
This project also threatens the entire neighborhood's personal investments. Our neighborhood is a peaceful residential area, and introducing a commercial establishment will undeniably diminish property values. The National Association of Realtors states that homes located near gas stations can see a decrease in value of up to 15%.
We urge the Gwinnett County planning commission to reconsider the approval of this gas station construction at 1077 Killian Hill Rd. Sustainable development must prioritize the well-being and safety of community members over commercial interests.
Please support us in safeguarding the safety, environment, quality of life, and financial stability of our neighborhood. Sign this petition to stop the gas station from being built at 1077 Killian Hill Rd, and let us preserve the peace and integrity of our community. Your voice can make a difference.
