The Issue

Animal Shelters Cost US Citizens up to $2 Billion Yearly. On average, 76% of shelter animals are saved and over 900,000 animals are euthanized. Only 29 states have laws that prohibit using gas chambers.

There are laws known as "holding period" statutes in over thirty states. These laws specify the minimum amount of time that an animal (often a dog or cat) must be kept at a pound or public animal shelter before being put to death. The holding phase typically lasts between five and seven days.

The majority of animals in the shelter are compromised in ways that raise questions about their capacity to absorb gases at the correct to fulfill the "conditions" for a merciful death as a result of mental stress.

Any inhaled gas must build up to a specific level in the lungs at a controlled rate to be successful in euthanasia. It is almost impossible for each animal to receive the correct dose at the right time when several are packed into a gas chamber. The amount and pace of gas received depends partly on where one is located inside the chamber. It is a hasty method of ending a life that can be excruciatingly painful and futile. By contrast, euthanasia carried out through the injection of legal medications can be done with such accuracy as to guarantee correct dosage and a humane death.

Animals deserve to live, in the event they don't get that chance we can help them. Signing up increases awareness, depending on the amount of social presence we have. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of millions of animals from this fate. Let's work together to save them by removing this terrible act!

I've sent a letter to Senator Schumer.
