The Issue

Immigration policy and border security are complex and deeply personal issues for many people across the United States. But when these sensitive topics are trivialized into games, it diminishes the real-life struggles and injustices faced by countless individuals and families striving to make a better life. On the official White House website, games are being used in a way that gamifies and, consequently, dehumanizes the experience of immigrants. This is not merely hurtful; it's unacceptable.

The White House Arcade, a feature on the www.whitehouse.gov website, currently hosts several immigration-themed games that portray important and consequential matters as nothing more than points to be scored. In doing so, these games desensitize the serious impact of immigration policies, turning the very real and distressing issue of deportation into entertainment.

America prides itself on being a nation of immigrants, yet we now see a portrayal that reduces these complex narratives into a simple digital pastime. These representations foster an environment of indifference towards the plight and dignity of immigrants and risk fostering prejudiced attitudes.

The aim of this petition is to bring about an end to this insensitive portrayal by urging the White House to remove or substantively alter these games. They should reflect importantly on how media can unintentionally inform negative stereotypes and shape policy perceptions.

Furthermore, we call for a comprehensive public review of the content standards for the White House Arcade. It's imperative to ensure all content upheld by this historic institution reflects our country's values of dignity, equality, and respect for every human being.

Now is the time to stop trivializing the suffering of families. We ask you to stand in solidarity with our immigrant communities and demand the White House integrates thoughtful and dignified representations into their public-facing platforms. Let's shape a future where everyone is respected and valued equally.

Please join us by signing this petition to insist the White House makes meaningful changes to its Arcade content.
