The Issue

Stop Further Immigration and Asylum Accommodation in Leicester

We are calling on the UK Government to stop further expansion of immigration and asylum accommodation in Leicester until the impact on housing, homelessness, public services and community safety has been properly assessed.

Leicester is already experiencing significant pressures on housing and essential services. Many residents are struggling to find suitable and affordable housing, while homelessness and demand for public services remain serious concerns.

Residents are also increasingly concerned about community safety, including violence and sexual offences, and particularly the safety of women and girls.

We believe Leicester residents should have a meaningful voice in decisions that significantly affect the communities in which they live.

We are calling for:

A review of the impact of immigration and asylum accommodation on Leicester’s housing and public services.

No further expansion of asylum accommodation in Leicester until local capacity has been properly assessed.

Greater transparency about asylum accommodation and the funding provided to support it.

Greater consideration of Leicester’s existing housing shortage and homelessness pressures.

Proper assessment of the impact of population growth on healthcare, education, social care, transport and other essential services.

Stronger measures to protect women and girls from sexual assault, harassment and violence.

Effective enforcement of UK immigration law.

Better transparency around relevant crime and offender data, where legally permissible and statistically reliable.
Meaningful consultation with Leicester residents before significant decisions about asylum accommodation and population growth are made.
Why this matters

This petition is not about hostility towards individuals. It is about capacity, safety, transparency, accountability and giving Leicester residents a voice.

Everyone living in Leicester should be expected to respect UK law and the safety and rights of others.

We believe Leicester deserves immigration and asylum policies that take account of the city’s ability to provide housing and services, while ensuring that women, children and the wider community are properly protected.

Leicester deserves to be safe.
Leicester deserves to be heard.

We are asking the UK Government to listen to Leicester residents and take action.
