Stop funding harassment, hold New Bedford Guide accountable
The Issue
We, the people of the New Bedford area and South Coast, demand that all local businesses, advertisers, and political candidates immediately pull their sponsorships and end all advertising with New Bedford Guide. New Bedford Guide profits off rage-bait and clickbait. Every week, everyday residents—from shoppers and drivers to teenagers—find their photos or security camera clips posted online without their knowledge or consent. Before a single fact is verified, or before police even make a report, hundreds of thousands of followers are invited to judge, insult, and "dox" total strangers in the comments. Innocent people have had their reputations dragged, their workplaces targeted, and their safety threatened—and the platform almost never deletes the posts once the truth comes out. On top of violating personal privacy, the platform has a documented history of spreading misinformation, racial bias, xenophobia, and harmful coverage that directly targets our Black, Indigenous, Cape Verdean, Hispanic, Caribbean, Islamic, and immigrant communities. This isn't public service reporting—it is the monetization of community harm. Our local businesses and leaders must stop funding a platform that divides our neighborhoods and puts our neighbors in danger for clicks. Sign this petition to demand that local sponsors cut ties and support fair, responsible media in our city.
Beyond signing this petition, we urge every single resident to take immediate action: unfollow, block, and report their Facebook page, Instagram account, and website for harassment, privacy violations, and spreading unverified media. Cut off their views, demand that local sponsors pull their ad dollars, and stand together for a safer, more respectful community.
