My name is Shamane Howe. I am an Army Veteran and Author. Many know me by my pen name, Shalamar Parrish. 

Although, I am physically, mentally and financially stable. Needing no ones assistance to help me with any of my affairs and live independently away from my family...

  I have recently uncovered that currently I am trapped in every adult's worst nightmare, stripped of my legal power and rights by someone I trusted - my own aunt. Not only did she deceitfully obtain a Power of Attorney (POA) /Guardianship over me while I am mentally, physically, and financially stable, and already have my living will, durable POA elect and end of life wishes already in place...

( I also helped her with hers to protect her rights and dignity.)

However, my aunt did the opposite and proceeded to illicitly retrieve my insurance money related to a residential relative claim fire claim.

I couldn't begin to explain how this has affected my life but I can assure you that this devastating matter has not broken my spirit nor my belief in the Judicial system nor my belief in the collective efforts of American Citizens to get the job done!

MOVING FORWARD 

Please stand with me as I set out on a mission to ensure NO ONE else has to go through this painful ordeal.

Upon my researching I have uncovered that many Americans have experienced this!

In the United States and beyond, the misuse of POA and Guardianship is shockingly common! Heartbreaking stories like mine continue to unfold as unscrupulous individuals use these instruments to exploit the very people they should protect. Yet, the systemic failure to adequately oversee and regulate these roles is evident.

It's imperative that changes are made to our existing laws to eliminate the potential for fraud. We need to establish robust safeguards that prevent an individual from obtaining a fraudulent POA or Guardianship over a mentally, physically, and financially secure adult without lawful justification.

The bottom line is this - NO ONE  should have their rightful power stripped away, particularly not in an exploitative or deceitful manner. It's time to raise our voice to build stronger legal protections and uphold the fundamental rights we all deserve. Sign this petition today to put an end to fraudulent POAs and Guardianship abuses.
