Stop fraudulent interior designers — protect homeowners

Stop Fraudulent Interior Designers — Protect Homeowners!
In April 2025, I entrusted Rahul Verma with the interior design of my dream home. I paid a total of ₹2,00,000 in advance, dreaming of moving into my new space with my family. Instead of the joy and excitement of a freshly designed home, I faced repeated delays, empty promises, and ultimately, betrayal. His actions left my family in limbo — forced to continue paying both rent and home loan EMIs — and caused severe financial and emotional stress.

This experience shattered my trust and clearly shows how the lack of regulation in this industry has real and damaging consequences for ordinary homeowners.

Interior designers in India operate without the kind of strict oversight that protects consumers in other sectors. Unlike builders who are governed by RERA, there is no equivalent regulatory authority for interior designers. This absence of accountability creates a gap that allows unethical individuals to exploit trusting homeowners without fear of consequences.

I want to be clear: I am not against all interior designers. Many are honest, hardworking professionals. But because of the misconduct of a few, homeowners are left vulnerable, with no formal registry to verify credibility, no licensing standards, and no dedicated grievance redressal body.

The impact of such unregulated practices goes beyond money. Families suffer emotional distress, prolonged inconvenience, project delays, and broken trust. People postpone moving into their homes, deplete savings, and struggle with uncertainty — all while trying to fight long legal battles on their own.

What we need is simple and necessary:

A Regulatory Authority for Interior Designers, similar to RERA
Mandatory registration and licensing of interior designers and contractors
Clear service standards and contracts
A fast and effective grievance redressal mechanism for homeowners
Penalties and blacklisting for proven cases of fraud and malpractice
By signing this petition, you are demanding accountability, transparency, and protection for homeowners. You are standing up not just for me, but for thousands of families who silently suffer similar experiences.

Help me build a better future and a better India.
Let’s bring trust, fairness, and responsibility back into the interior design industry.
Sign this petition to protect homeowners from fraud and exploitation.
