Stop forcing students to use third-party middlemen aka Bank Mobile
The Issue
In recent years, many of us have experienced the frustration of dealing with BankMobile Disbursements (BM Technologies) when accessing the funds we are rightfully owed. Our institution, in an effort to minimize its own administrative costs, has adopted this method at the direct expense of us, the students. The time has come to change this system.
Students like myself and my peers have faced numerous unnecessary challenges due to this extra layer between us and our university-provided financial aid. From unexpected fees to delayed access to funds, the problems with BankMobile have caused undue stress, hampered our educational experiences, and, in some cases, threatened our academic paths. We are adults, responsible for our education and finances, yet find ourselves beholden to a third-party middleman that too often prioritizes profit over student welfare.
The role of the university is to support and facilitate the academic and personal growth of its students, not to complicate financial processes. Direct university-to-student payouts would ensure that aid reaches us promptly and securely, eliminating the potential for unnecessary fees. Such a system would promote transparency, allowing students to fully understand and trust the flow of their financial aid.
Moreover, numerous universities have already taken decisive steps to cut ties with third-party financial disbursements, recognizing the value of placing students' needs first. By returning to a direct distribution model, our institution would not only align itself with these progressive peers but also demonstrate a commitment to student-centered policies and practices.
We call upon the Administration, Board of Trustees, and Student Government to listen to the collective voices of students, parents, and community members who demand change. It's crucial that our university takes immediate action to terminate its contract with BankMobile Disbursements and transition back to a more student-friendly approach.
Join us in this fight for fairness and transparency. Your signature could be the push needed to improve the financial experience of countless students now and in the future. Sign the petition today and help ensure that our institution prioritizes its students above all else.
