The FTC Commissioner said to me last night, "I just want to jump in to compliment you, Mrs. Boesing, for exposing these issues, because you have personally alerted me to things I had no idea about in the healthcare system. I didn’t hear about them from pharmacies, I didn’t hear about them from lawyers, and I didn’t hear about them from economists. But your personal advocacy has reached me, and I just want you to know that it matters. I know you’re doing it for your son and for the millions of other people out there like your son, but I also know how hard it is when you are trying to be a mom and take care of your kids, to also spend your time advocating for other people’s kids and for the system. So I just want you to know that it matters, it’s working, and that I hear it. You, personally, have educated me an enormous amount."
After speaking and listening to the others speak, my husband walked out of the room where he sat quietly with our children and wrapped his arms around me, and tears began to stream down my face. Sometimes, I question if what we are doing is enough to make a difference or if anyone is hearing us? Today was confirmation that they are.
In addition to my advocacy, I work two jobs and have two kids with chronic conditions. The sacrifices my family has made have been countless, but after uncovering the suffering of so many and knowing the risks to my son's life, I have no choice but to continue. It was incredibly validating to hear that our voices and the voices of patients and caregivers are finally being heard at the federal level, in a way that attorneys, lawyers, and even pharmacists have not been able to amplify.
Thank you also to the supporters of our advocacy and this petition. Many of you have taught me a lot about the issues, and I share what I have learned with those in power and will continue to do so. I encourage other supporters to read the comments on this petition and to learn about the harm being done. I encourage you to also become an advocate for this cause and to never give up.
I hope that the current FTC Chair and commissioners and legislators in a bipartisan way will continue the open public discussions to ensure that our voices are heard and create the change that America desperately needs!
Thank you for your continued support,
Loretta Boesing
