Happy Thanksgiving to Our Supporters to Stop the Forcing of Mail-order Pharmacy
Today, we are forever grateful to each one of our supporters.
Despite the challenges of the year, we have so much to be thankful for. In addition to our supporters, we have increased the number of patients who are willing to share their stories of the issues they’ve had with the media, we have spoken with representatives across our nation, and connected with pharmacists who are employed by the insurance companies' related pharmacies that often force patients to their own mail-order pharmacies, such as Optum RX, CVS, and Express Scripts. Some have been willing to speak anonymously to the public while sharing their stories with the media about the working conditions and issues that patients are having.
Every year, I share the delays of mail order medications around the holidays as life-dependent medications are not prioritized over Christmas presents. Many are forced to the mail-order pharmacy as the only option of coverage. It does not have to be this way. Many local pharmacies offer free delivery in temperature-controlled vehicles. As insurance companies have merged with the mail-order pharmacies, they are rarely allowing patients safe access to a local pharmacy without forcing the patient to pay a much higher price. At the same time, insurance companies will also reimburse other pharmacies less than they reimburse their own pharmacy or they’ll reimburse their competition below the cost of the medication to purposefully harm the pharmacies. As pharmacies close, the insurance companies are hurting patients and entire communities amid a pandemic.
I will be updating the petition more over the holiday weekend about the issues.
In the meantime, from our family to yours, THANK YOU! You are greatly appreciated this Thanksgiving day. Please know that each supporter helps us to make a difference in the lives of others.
