I have heartbreaking news. Last year, my advocacy started when my son's transplant labs elevated after the mail-order pharmacy shipped his medications in only a bag on a hot day. In the past, this happened after his liquid oral transplant medications were shipped in only a bag on a 102-degree day.
Since the last time they shipped his medications carelessly, I've watched anxiously hoping that his transplant labs would return to his normal. They've been mostly on the high end of normal and one sometimes slightly out of range since the shipping incident.
Over the last couple of months, his labs doubled. Last week we received a message from his nurse. He will be getting a biopsy soon to test for liver rejection.
This brings me back to the time that I questioned the mail-order pharmacy about the medications being shipped improperly. The mail-order pharmacists said that if the medications were bad, then, my son's labs would be elevated. They were elevated. I informed her of the risk of waiting until his labs elevated to take the issue seriously of handling medications carelessly during shipping. If his medications lose potency or are delayed, he could be thrown on a downward spiral of liver transplant rejection that he may never recover from. It's not worth the risk.
And here we are.... In the place that I wanted to avoid. I can only hope that we can save another patient and caregiver from feeling the way that I feel today.
I can now relate to the many patients and caregivers who have said, "I want to do more but I'm too sick to fight," or "I want to do more but taking care of my child who isn't doing well is all that I can do."
This is why your support means so much to every patient, parent, caregiver, and child who has been a victim of mail-order pharmacy. Please continue sharing the petition.
I will be posting another update throughout the week.
Thank you,
Loretta Boesing
