Stop Forcing Employees to use PTO on Mandatory office Closures

The Issue

Workers across Colorado are being required to use their earned PTO when offices are closed by their employer, including on holidays when no work option is provided.

PTO is meant for illness, caregiving, rest, and emergencies, not to cover employer mandated shutdowns.

This practice:

-Removes employee choice

-Reduces available sick and emergency leave

-Contributes to burnout, especially in healthcare and hourly roles

What we are asking

We call on employers and policy makers to:

-End mandatory PTO and use during required closures

-Provide separate holiday or closure pay

-Preserve PTO as a voluntary, employee-directed benefit

Employees should not lose earned time off or be penalized for circumstances beyond their control.

Sign this peition to support fair PTO practices and healthier workplaces.
