The Issue

My own granddaughter is in the process of getting adopted even though myself and her granddad are offering her a home where she will be able to stay with her family and stay in touch with her relatives. Disturbingly, my granddaughter hasn’t even met most of her relatives as the local authority hasn’t allowed this.

This situation is not just immensely personal, but it highlights a systemic issue that impacts many families around the world. There are countless instances where children are placed into the adoption system despite having willing and able family members ready to provide care. This process not only disrupts the child's sense of identity and belonging but also ignores the emotional well-being and rights of the child to grow up within their biological family where a safe environment can be assured.

The rights of blood relatives to care for children within their own family unit should be prioritized to ensure that children maintain their natural ties and emotional bonds with siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Statistics from child welfare studies indicate that children who remain with biological relatives have better outcomes in terms of emotional stability and sense of belonging.

We call on lawmakers and child welfare authorities to reevaluate the processes involved in child adoption, giving precedence to family care when a bloodline relative is not only willing but is also capable of providing a loving and nurturing environment for the child. This change would respect the familial connections that are vital for the child's development and preserve family unity, which can be tremendously beneficial for the child's emotional and psychological health.

Sign this petition to stop forced adoptions when a suitable family member is available to care for the child, ensuring that the well-being, heritage, and familial connections of these children are fully respected and preserved.
