Stop firework shows and unauthorized firework use

Stop firework shows and unauthorized firework use
The Issue
Our beloved dog had the scare of a lifetime, nearly losing his life after being startled by fireworks. In a desperate bid to escape the noise, he jumped into our palisades, sustaining serious injuries. Our story is not unique; countless families endure similar heartbreaks around New Year or on special occasions marked with fireworks. Pets become disoriented and frightened, leading to a surge in lost and injured animals. These harmful effects extend beyond our furry friends.
Wildlife suffers greatly from the barrage of fireworks. Birds, small mammals, and other creatures in our environment are largely defenseless against the loud explosions and bright lights. The stress and confusion caused can lead to disastrous consequences for local biodiversity, including death, abandonment of nests, and loss of habitat. It’s time to take action for their protection.
The noise pollution from fireworks also affects people with PTSD, autism spectrum disorder, and other sensory sensitivities, causing significant distress. Moreover, the air pollution and debris left behind after each show contribute to environmental damage, adding to the global community’s growing climate concerns.
We propose a ban on public firework displays and the sale of fireworks for private use. Instead, we urge communities to adopt quieter, safer alternatives for celebrations, like laser light shows or silent fireworks that provide the spectacle without the perilous side effects. These alternatives allow for joyous celebrations without the immense impact on pets, wildlife, and the environment.
Pressure is needed to bring about this change at a legislative level. We call upon local government officials, environmental agencies, and community leaders to take the necessary steps to protect our cherished animals and the planet. Let's usher in a new era of celebration, mindful of the welfare of all inhabitants of our communities.
