Thank you for all your support so far with sharing the petition and tweeting FIFA!

We need to keep the momentum going, so please keep sharing it on social media and with your friends and family. Click here to share the petition.

After engaging with a variety of stakeholders in government and the soccer world, I’m pleased to report that the Chief Executive of the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand has officially responded to me:

Dear Madeleine,

Thank you for your email, and apologies for the slow response – we have been fully committed to delivering the FIFA Women’s World Cup Play Off tournament, which concluded yesterday.

To date, there has only been media speculation about the matter you reference below – FIFA has not made any announcement. Accordingly, we aren’t in a position to discuss at this point in time.

We appreciate your interest and look forward to celebrating the world’s largest women’s sporting event with you in July.

The non-answer doesn’t surprise me after FIFA’s “tone-deaf” choice for its global fan ambassador, a Brazilian supermodel (really!!), five months before the Women’s World Cup. Read more on that here

You may have noticed that the Australian team, the Matildas, wore pride colours on their jerseys for their recent Cup of Nations matches. Their commitment to LQBTQIA+ rights is unquestionable!

Let's hope the "can neither confirm nor deny" from FIFA becomes "here's our Women's World Cup sponsor list and it doesn't include Visit Saudi".

In the meantime, keep the pressure on! Keep sharing the petition and post your tweets to #TellFIFANo

Thank you: your signature on the petition makes a difference and I hope to have more updates soon

Madeleine
