The Issue

FCPS proposed a plan for the 2026-27 school year that included Aspen and Aspen North neighborhoods in a list of areas that would be redistricted to a different elementary school.  The study said those neighborhoods contain approximately 86 students that would be moved from BHES to OES.  FCPS took feedback from the community and now has an alternate plan with some changes, but despite the lack of support for the move, they did not change the proposed plan for those two neighborhoods.  More details can be found on the redistricting website https://www.es41redistrictingstudy.org/

Please also use the above website to leave your comments for FCPS by September 18, 2025.  There will be public engagement meetings in October.

We want to let FCPS know that we do not support splitting up our neighborhoods and separating our children from the community at Blue Heron.  We do not support redistricting these neighborhoods for the second time in 5 years.  We do not support increasing the student distance from school and travel time.  We do not support decreasing the utilization of the BHES building from 92% to 84%.  These two neighborhoods also have 9 staff members with children attending BHES that will be impacted by this move.

Whether you live in Aspen/Aspen North or not, please sign to show your support for keeping these neighborhoods attending BHES.
