Facebook & Instagram censorship is nothing new for Louisa Kleinert, the owner/operator and lead artist at Louisville’s own Bluebird Ink Beautique.  Along with her traditional tattoo services, she also offers nipple tattoos, many of which are performed on breast cancer survivors. Despite fighting for her case that the photos that she posts are tattoos, and thus don’t violate community standards, she has repeatedly had her photos removed, and her account placed in “Facebook jail”, restricting her from posting on her own page or the page she maintains for her business.

In her own words, “This has happened 10 or 15 times to me since I opened the business 2 years ago. Tattoos are extremely visual, if people can’t see the work, how am I supposed to connect with the women that would benefit from this procedure?” 

Facebook, which owns Instagram, has no contact phone number, leaving business owners with little to no recourse. “I’ve seen people have their business pages deleted overnight for similar reasons” Louisa recounted, “and every time they suspend me, they say my account may be permanently deleted”.

Louisa Kleinert is a Louisville native and professional artist. She holds fine art degrees from Centre College and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and professional makeup certifications from Chic Studios in NYC.

Being raised in a medical family, the importance of helping the greater community was instilled in her from an early age.

Experiencing her mother's battle with breast cancer, she sought to help those battling disfiguration through the use of permanent makeup, paramedical and other body art services.
