Petition updateUSDA: Stop Exploiting Animals and FarmersRecap and Results from #StandWithFarmFamilies Trip to DC
Christy and Tony G., Stand with Farm Families
Aug 7, 2019

Hi Everyone,

We're excited to share some progress that resulted from our trip to Washington, DC. During our trip, we met with representatives from 30+ Congressional offices. Farmers from 7 states - South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and North Carolina - came together to drum up support for our cause. Our group represented all major forms of animal agriculture, poultry, hogs, and cattle. We met with USDA officials, Senators, Congress members, Committee staffers, held a Congressional briefing, and a press conference to explain why farmers, animals, and the environment need strong safeguards from abuse and exploitation by Corporate Ag.

We are grateful to Sen. Tester and Rep. Kaptur for circulating a Dear Colleague letter to USDA. This letter was sent to USDA last Wednesday. We are pleased that 9 Senators and 8 Congress members signed on to support our cause. We want to thank Senators Tester, Grassley, Sanders, Booker, Manchin, Jones, Brown, Baldwin, Wyden as well as Representatives Kaptur, Ryan, DeLauro, Pingree, Khanna, Pocan, Blumenauer, and McGovern for signing onto the letter and showing us their support. These Members of Congress chose to stand with farm families, animals, and the environment. Their support is greatly appreciated.
