Today the Washington Post published an article about our noise concerns. It was a solid article, but it did not get into the specifics of noise contours and why the LANMC and this petition exists. We are not opposed to accurate noise maps or to Dulles Airport being nearby. But both the actual noise levels changed after we bought and now the zoning is, too. We don't want anyone else to live in a restricted LDN 65 area. It is intolerable, just as the FAA says. But we wish the county had the same concern for *us* before Birchwood was approved and built. Because it must've been apparent to the county prior to approving Birchwood that it was going to subject its residents here to noise that it was not going to allow for future residents elsewhere in the county. In fact, MWAA told us that they had advised the county not to build here.
Therefore, we are opposed both to accepting that zoning consideration for Birchwood (and Brambleton) AND we are opposed to the unacceptable aircraft noise overhead. We believe we have a reasonable solution to reduce our neighborhood to below an LDN 65 status by rerouting the international flights that climb at lower altitudes over the parkland and commercial areas at the end of the 12/30 runway. So we want the county and MWAA in their various capacities to advocate for the residents who unknowingly bought here without proper and clear disclosures about projected noise and growth at the airport, as well as current noise levels--which could not be evaluated when most of us bought our homes during the pandemic.
