PETITION TO THE CITY OF BENBROOK
Request to Amend Construction Hours Near Residential Neighborhoods and Schools

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens, respectfully request that the City of
Benbrook amend its construction work-hour ordinance for residential developments located
adjacent to established neighborhoods.

The current permitted construction hours of 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday,
place an unnecessary burden on families, particularly during the school year.

In 2014, the hours were amended after builders and contractors complained to city staff, stating that the cities ordinance was over restrictive. 

As school resumes, many children must go to bed early in order to be rested and prepared for the
next school day. Construction activities—including heavy equipment, pile driving, hammering,
backup alarms, loud machinery, and construction-related music—often continue into the evening
hours, making it difficult for children to sleep, complete homework, or enjoy a quiet home
environment.

We are not asking that construction stop. We are simply requesting reasonable work hours that
better balance the needs of the builder with the well-being of the surrounding community.
Therefore, we respectfully ask the Benbrook City Council to amend the permitted weekday
construction hours from:
Current Hours:
Monday–Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Requested Hours:
Monday–Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

This modest adjustment would:
• Help ensure children receive adequate sleep during the school year.
• Provide students with a quieter environment for homework and studying.
• Reduce evening noise for working families, seniors, and other nearby residents.
• Better balance ongoing development with the quality of life of those who already call Benbrook
home.

We respectfully ask the City Council to consider this request and demonstrate its commitment to
protecting the health, education, and well-being of Benbrook families.
