Some individuals even stand as living testament to this pressing issue - our precious dogs, Lily and Uno, are survivors who were on the brink of untimely deaths at a mere 7 months old. Their stories, told via their Instagram pages - @Lily(fast ears) & @Unothewonderdog - have shed light on the plight of countless similar victims.

It is estimated that around 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized every year in the United States (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). This reprehensible act has not only cruel consequences but also financial implications. The cost of shelter animal euthanasia is substantial in comparison to the costs associated with spaying, neutering, and adopting pets.

Meanwhile, numerous pet stores have recently closed due to bans on selling dogs and cats. This has left several perfectly usable spaces vacant, which could serve as critical safe havens for these shelter animals. Much like what has been achieved in Arizona, these closed pet stores could instead house rescued animals, providing easier and more affordable access to potential adopters.

We seek reprieve and change from this distressing reality and propose a solution that not only saves innocent lives but also makes good use of dormant resources. We implore lawmakers, animal rights agencies, and communities to support this motion: stop euthanasia in shelters and repurpose closed pet stores to house rescued cats and dogs, to sell them to people at affordable prices.
