The El Monte Union High School Board will be voting on June 14th, 2023 to move forward with re-negotiating an extension of the lease with Pasadena City College for the Rosemead campus. Our last chance to stop the board is to reach out to Mrs. de Siegrist, as she is the only board member who can vote to prevent this from happening. Recent events have displayed how bad a situation this is will be for the special education students of the El Monte Union High School District. There is an increase of enrollment of students who will need to move on to the district's Adult Transition Center. However, since the current board voted in January to overturn the plan to move it to the Rosemead campus, the district has a major problem on its hands. There is not enough room at the current ATC to handle an increase in enrollment. The Director of Special Education for the El Monte Union High School District sent out an email on May 10th to all of the department chairs of all the high schools in the district, asking them to see if they could find 10-15 seniors who would be moving on to the Adult Transition Center that could be held back for one year. As the years go on, the district is going to have an increase of special education students, who will eventually need to move on to the ATC. If the lease with PCC is extended, then the district will be in a crisis of trying to figure out where to put these special needs students who have a unique situation where they cannot just be put anywhere there is space.
Since time is running out, this is our last chance to appeal to Mrs. de Siegrist to ask to her to vote against extending the lease with PCC. Personal letters sent to her home will be a great response. Here is her mailing address:

Please be polite and respectful in your letter. Here is a sample that you can use:
Dear Mrs. de Siegrist,
I am appealing to you to stand up for the special education students of the El Monte Union High School District by voting against the extension of the lease of the Rosemead campus with PCC. The special education students and the district's special education program will be in dire consequences, leaving the students without enough room to advance to the Adult Transition Center, which currently lacks the space to handle the increase of enrollment for next school year and the years ahead. Please do your duty as a member of the board of trustees by protecting the needs of these students, whom you took an oath of office to support.
You can text a similar message to board member de Siegrist's cell number or make a personal call. Her cell number is (626) 622-1794. If you mail a letter, do not send it any later than June 9th or it will arrive too late.
Thank you everyone who has helped with this campaign. Let's bombard Mrs. de Siegrist with as many letters as we can!!
Thank You,
Jeff Morris
