Stop EBC From DESTROYING Eastbourne's Historic Fisherman's Green Seafront

The Issue

Eastbourne Borough Council’s Development and Growth plan for the Town is currently open for public consultation. We urge you to use your voice and join us in our campaign objecting to their destructive and damaging plans for Fisherman’s Green. The local Councillors are acting like greedy landlords . Not the custodians that they are elected to be. The proposed plan for Fisherman’s Green, an historic area of the Seafront, aims to eradicate the areas fishing roots by DESTROYING the Seafront for Commercial gain. This development will disrupt lives and destroy livelihoods . The Anglers Association club was first incepted in 1905. The Fisherman’s Club emerged in 1930. The tennis courts were put in place in the 1920s. The Basket Ball Courts are used 365 days of the year regardless of the various storms and driving rain. The Fishing Businesses are thriving. These plans would not only devastate both existing business and residential communities, they would bring about an explosion in pollution to this beautiful, historic area. Can EBC justify the removal of these important outdoor recreation facilities that are much needed in this increasing world of the cyberspace/metaverse targeting families into an unhealthy indoor lifestyle, and away from this essential outdoor leisure area of the seafront? The existing spaces are extremely positive places for wellbeing and good mental health. What is needed is investment and sustainable growth for these important areas of recreation and business which exist close to the beach and its sea. EBC shouldn’t simply be razing it all to the ground and building over it for short term financial gain. We know EBC has mismanaged its finances. This is public knowledge and it’s no excuse for forcing an unwanted development upon this passionate Community. EBC should instead be looking at how to make the area attractive to entrepreneurs, residents and visitors. Those who appreciate the precious environment, current lived spaces and the history they share. This could bring growth, sustainability and longevity to this crucial fishing business and recreational area of the seafront. We do not want EBC creating a pollution hotspot by enclosing this busy traffic access to the West side of the town at the expense of those of us within the East. We are always left to wonder if we in the East are always to be the poor relation of the town, given that EBC seems to wish to wantonly eradicate Fisherman’s Green by building over it. We have as much right to live in a pollution free vibrant socially important area of the seafront as those on the West side of this Beautiful Town. Please support us, sign our petition and join us in our fight to keep harmful pollution levels down and fight this environmental nightmare from destroying the livelihoods of those whose businesses rely on the sea and have done so for over 100 years.
