Stop E-waste Export, Recycle!

The Issue

More than 50 megatons of E-waste are produced each year, and more than 80% of it is not documented nor formally recycled.

In 2018, more than 383 thousand tons of E-waste were illegally shipped from the EU to developing countries. Informal recycling in these areas is an environmental hazard since it pollutes the air, water, soil, and food.

Child labor is particularly widespread at informal recycling sites, and children are exposed to various toxic compounds produced by the primitive recycling process. Such substances like Lead, for example, could affect children's health and development on multiple levels. It causes cognitive and behavioral dysfunctions, respiratory problems, skeletal impairment, and much more.

This petition calls for greater emphasis on electronic recycling and urges the government to:
- Make stricter regulations for e-waste management.
- Hire certified recycling companies.
- Increase public accessibility for e-waste recycling.
- Increase ports investigations and surveillance.
