Stop Dumping and Backfilling at Easton's Pond

Stop Dumping and Backfilling at Easton's Pond
The Issue
Your attention and action on this matter are crucial.
This petition is an urgent matter, and we request immediate action.
To compel the City of Newport to provide the public with any relevant
information and or documents about the ongoing work at the water treatment
facility on Bliss Mine Road and the property and waterway surrounding Easton's
Pond. This includes but is not limited to any permits, engineering, and
testing results related to the construction and backfilling activities at the
facility's former sedimentation pond. We are particularly concerned about
the potential environmental impact of these activities, the
environmental status of the area being filled, and the status/test results for the
material being dumped.
Further, we would like any contractors, engineers, consultants, or other third
parties involved identified and any contracts with them produced for the
public. We further ask that the city cease these activities until evidence is
provided that it is acting lawfully. If said documents and evidence cannot be
provided, we ask that all work done be remediated and the property be restored
to its original condition before these activities. This request is made to ensure the safety and well-being of our community and the
preservation of our natural environment.
