While our provincial government is busy pouring millions into getting beer into every corner store, our healthcare system is quietly being gutted. It might not seem obvious, but the next time you or someone you love needs a simple blood test, you might be slapped with a bill for hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars.

Here’s what’s happening:
They didn’t change OHIP’s coverage outright. Instead, companies like LifeLabs are reclassifying tests that were once free under OHIP. Now, unless a specialist requests the test, you’re on the hook for these staggering costs:
• MRD Testing (genetic-based cancer test): $2,000 to $4,500
• NIPT Testing (non-invasive prenatal testing): $550 to $795
• AMH Testing (reproductive health): $129
• Cervical Health Testing: $129
• Colorectal Health Kit: $75
• Liver Fibrosis Test: $275

For many people—cancer patients, pregnant women, or those needing vital tests—this can be the difference between getting the care they need or going without. You're simply out of luck if you don’t have the money. And these aren’t just optional tests. They’re necessary to save lives.
This isn’t an isolated issue. Our rights to access essential healthcare are being stripped away bit by bit. First, it’s tests like these. What’s next? Access to abortions? Birth control? It’s part of a larger pattern of control over our healthcare and lives, and we need to stop it before it worsens.

We need to wake up to what’s happening. Ontario’s healthcare system is crumbling, and Doug Ford’s government thinks they can get away with it because not enough people know. They don’t think you’ll notice until it’s you or a loved one standing in that clinic, terrified of what the future holds, only to be hit with a $4,500 bill for a test that could save your life.

This isn’t just a government oversight—it’s a deliberate attack on the healthcare system. We need to share this information far and wide. Talk to your family, your friends, and your coworkers. Demand answers from your representatives. And most of all, we need to get angry. Our health is not a commodity. It’s a right.
