Stop Double Counter’s GDPR Violations and Discord ID Retention

Das Problem

We, the undersigned Discord users and community members, demand immediate action against the bot Double Counter for violating user privacy and misrepresenting GDPR compliance.

What’s Happening?

Double Counter claims to follow the GDPR — yet its own privacy FAQ admits that Discord user IDs are not deleted, even after a confirmed data deletion request. They justify this using Article 6(1)(f) (legitimate interest), but this does not override Article 17, which guarantees the right to full erasure of personal data.

A Discord ID is personal data. Retaining it after a deletion request — while telling users their data is “deleted” — is misleading and unlawful.

Why This Is a Problem?

  • Incomplete deletion: Discord IDs and account links are retained after GDPR requests.
  • Punitive consequences: Users are blocked from verifying again if they exercise their rights.
  • Misuse of GDPR language: Their FAQ twists legal terms to justify retention.
  • No opt-out: Users must leave all servers using Double Counter to restrict processing — a technical excuse that violates GDPR principles.
  • Discord platform risk: These practices may also violate Discord’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

What We Demand?

We call on Double Counter’s developers to:

  • Immediately stop retaining Discord IDs after deletion requests.
  • Correct misleading GDPR claims in their documentation.
  • Allow full opt-out and erasure without blocking future access.
  • Undergo a privacy audit to ensure compliance with EU law.
  • Notify affected users whose data was retained unlawfully.

Why It Matters?

Privacy is a right — not a loophole.

No bot should punish users for exercising GDPR protections. No platform should allow third-party tools to retain identifiers after confirmed deletion.

We stand for transparency, lawful data handling, and user control. Sign this petition to hold Double Counter accountable and protect your digital rights.
