Stop Dog Park construction at Oak Creek Community Park.

Stop Dog Park construction at Oak Creek Community Park.
The Issue
We are the residents of Irvine CA, dog owners, people who play soccer in the Oak Creek Community Park, we are all united in our opposition to the idea to build a dog park in the Oak Creek Community Park as it threatens the peace and placidity that we value in our neighborhood.
While we acknowledge the importance of providing recreational spaces for both humans and animals, we believe that the proposed location for the dog park presents significant risks and challenges that must be addressed.
First and foremost, a dog park adjacent to a children's playground and soccer fields poses potential safety hazards for young residents, families, dogs and soccer players. Children frequently utilize the playground to engage in outdoor activities and play, and the presence of potentially off-leash dogs nearby even on the parking lot could lead to unpredictable interactions and accidents, including bites or injuries. Dogs and soccer players are not a good fit either.
Additionally, the proposed site for the dog park is currently a cherished green space where members of the community gather to enjoy outdoor activities such as soccer. This field serves as a vital recreational area for residents of all ages, fostering physical health, social interaction, and community cohesion. The removal of this field to make room for a dog park would deprive residents, especially children and families, of a valuable space for exercise and leisure. Originally proposed park improvement design included additional turf field, walk ways, volleyball and basketball courts. The most recent design doesn't have it. Moreover the temporary dog park was moved to close proximity to the residential neighborhood. You can find the original design on the picture attached to this petition and new plan on city's website at https://www.cityofirvine.org/parks-facilities/oak-creek-park-project
Furthermore, the establishment of a dog park near residential properties raises concerns about noise pollution, odor, and potential disruptions to the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood. Dog parks can generate considerable noise from barking and playful activities, which could disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the residential area and negatively impact the quality of life for nearby residents.
In light of these concerns, we urge the local authorities to reconsider the proposed location for the dog park and explore alternative sites that are more suitable and less intrusive to the residential community. Preserving the existing green space for recreational use, including soccer and other outdoor activities, is crucial for maintaining the well-being and harmony of our neighborhood.
Thank you for considering our petition and for prioritizing the safety and interests of the residents affected by this decision.
Sincerely
