Stop Dog Fighting

Stop Dog Fighting
The Issue
We are 8th grade students and our action for our civics project is to prevent dog fighting or at least make some sort of change.
Dog fighting is an illegal sport, in which people train/ beat dogs until they are aggressive, and then put the two highly aggressive dogs in a small dirt pit, forcing them to fight to the death. Our claim is that dog fighting should be taken into deeper consideration by law enforcement, since there are still people who use dogs for dog fighting. The people who still participate in dog fighting don’t care about the dog’s pain or their death. To take action upon this, we will proceed to walk around our school, telling more people about what happens to dogs that are forced to fight, making sure that more people are aware of the issue.
The history of the “sport” is that the English thought it was a respectable sport among the English nobility. The places where dog fights are held, are usually underground, in a closed off space, as to not be found out. Now in all states, dog fighting is illegal, but people still hold them in their basements just for the money, even though it causes the dog incredible amounts of pain, both physically and psychologically. In one year, a single dog made over $100,000 and then it died the next year. The breeder bred more of the dogs and then trained those puppies to fight and eventually die slowly and painfully. Our goal is to raise money for the dogs vet bills or buy materials to stop dog fighting.
