The Issue
We were part of the "Jewels of the Nation" carnival held back in April, a vibrant celebration in support of the SOGIE community. This event, full of promise and potential, has left a bitter taste for those of us who contributed immensely—contestants, makeup artists, volunteers, and even those in management. Despite our efforts and unwavering dedication, we have not received any payment for our contributions.
During the event, many of us faced inhumane living conditions, making it incredibly difficult to participate to our fullest potential. These issues have come to light mainly thanks to the courage of individuals like Joe Wangabada, whose posts on Facebook have provided a glimpse of the harsh realities experienced by those involved.
Our petition is a call of solidarity to stop Divina from engaging in any spaces related to the SOGIE community until transparency, proper payment, and humane conditions are guaranteed. We believe that events meant to uplift and celebrate should not come at the cost of exploiting the very people who make them possible.
We propose that any future collaboration with Divina requires contractual agreements that ensure timely and fair compensation for services rendered and humane conditions for all involved. Furthermore, there should be mechanisms for accountability and oversight to prevent such situations from occurring again.
Supporting the SOGIE community with fairness, respect, and dignity is not just a choice, it is a necessity. Our voices, efforts, and talents deserve acknowledgement and respect. By signing this petition, you stand with us in demanding better treatment and ensuring that everyone who dedicates themselves to these events is valued and appreciated.
