The issue

My grandparents have been living at Dicky Beach Holiday Park for many years. It is not just a place for them; it is their home. As a family, we have countless cherished memories associated with this park, and it deeply saddens me to learn about the plans to phase out long-term tenants like them. This decision threatens the community they've built over the years, a vibrant and supportive group who contribute significantly to the area.

The council's decision to return these sites to the 'holiday pool' might fulfill a certain administrative aim, but it comes at the hefty cost of displacing residents who call it their only home. The land's intended use for recreational and holiday camping overlooks the integral part these residents play in maintaining the park's unique character and atmosphere year-round. They are not just occupiers of space but are active participants in the local economy and community.

While the council allows for selling non-fixed dwellings and a temporary stay, this offers little comfort to those who face the uncertainty and emotional upheaval of losing their homes. Many of the park's long-term residents are elderly, including my grandparents, and moving could cause undue stress and hardship.

We urge the council to reconsider their decision to phase out the long-term tenants of Dicky Beach Holiday Park. Let us aim for a solution that values both the recreational purpose of the area and the rights of its long-standing residents. Please sign this petition to support the community and ensure the stability and security of residents like my grandparents. Together, we can make a positive impact and preserve this cherished beachfront community.
