URGENT: Moorway Lane Planning Application – Please Contact Councillor Lucy Care Before Thursday
Dear all,
Thank you again to everyone who signed and supported the petition against the proposed development on land off Moorway Lane.
We have now been made aware that the outline planning application is going before Derby City Council’s Planning Committee this Thursday, 1 October.
The application proposes up to 350 homes, a local centre, landscaping, open space, drainage infrastructure and associated works, with access from Moorway Lane.
Despite all our efforts, and the very real concerns raised by residents, changes to national planning rules have made it increasingly difficult for councils to refuse developments such as this.
The pressure on Derby to identify land for new housing is significant, and changes to national planning policy have further reduced the ability of local communities to influence where development takes place.
We therefore have to be realistic that outline planning permission may be granted.
However, this does not mean that we should give up.
Because this is an outline planning application, there is still an important opportunity to influence the conditions and safeguards that could be attached to any planning permission.
We are therefore asking everyone who signed the petition, irrespective of which political party you support, to urgently contact Councillor Lucy Care at:

Lucy is a local councillor who sits on the Planning Committee considering the application.
Please tell her what additional conditions or safeguards you believe should be put in place if the development is approved.
These could relate to the issues you are most concerned about, including traffic and highway safety, access from Moorway Lane, protection of green space and the green wedge, wildlife and biodiversity, drainage, the proposed open space and extension to Millennium Wood, or the wider impact of 350 additional homes on the surrounding community.
You do not need to write a long or complicated email. Simply explain what concerns you and what you believe the Planning Committee should require from the developer if permission is granted.
The planning officers have already suggested a number of conditions. But the Planning Committee can consider whether further conditions are needed or whether particular requirements should be included within those conditions.
This is why contacting Lucy before Thursday is so important.
Whatever your political views, this is about making sure the voices of local residents continue to be heard and that, if development does go ahead, we have done everything we can to secure the strongest possible protections for our community, green spaces and local environment.
