Petition updateStop Development Threatening Millennium Woods Area, LittleoverProposals Could Remove Derby’s Local Planning Powers

We need your help to make sure Derby residents’ voices are heard in the decision‑making process around major housing developments.

The government is currently seeking views on proposals that would require local planning authorities (LPAs) to consult the Secretary of State whenever they are considering either refusing or approving a planning application for 150 or more homes. According to the consultation documents, this could mean that the final decision on large‑scale developments is taken out of Derby’s hands and made instead by the Secretary of State in London.

For our area, this has a very real and immediate implication. If these proposals go ahead, it would make it very likely that the Moorway Lane development would be decided in London rather than Derby, removing the decision from local councillors who understand the area, the Green Wedge, and the community impact.

Many people in Derby have expressed concern that these changes could weaken local decision‑making and reduce the influence of communities who know their neighbourhoods best. That’s why it is so important that as many residents as possible take part in the consultation.

Your feedback becomes part of the evidence the government must consider before making any changes. Strong community engagement helps ensure that Derby people remain part of the process when decisions are made about the future of our city.

The consultation is open until 6 May, so now is the time to act.

Thank you for taking a moment to speak up for Derby’s communities and for helping ensure that local voices continue to matter in planning decisions.
