The Issue

For years, millions have watched Jackie and Shadow, the beloved bald eagle pair, nest, raise chicks, and soar above Big Bear Lake through a livestream that’s become a symbol of wild beauty and resilience.

Now, their home is under threat.

A luxury housing project known as Moon Camp—with 58 homes and a marina—has been approved right next to their nesting grounds.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors pushed it through without public comment, ignoring over 6,000 emails of concern from residents, scientists, and wildlife advocates.

This development would:

Destroy over 2,000 trees
Increase noise, traffic, and boat activity
Disrupt a fragile ecosystem that bald eagles and countless other species depend on.

Bald eagles like Jackie and Shadow are more than icons—they’re federally protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act. Building a luxury marina near an active bald eagle nest isn’t just irresponsible—it may be illegal.

We, the undersigned, call on:

  • The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to reverse or halt approval of the Moon Camp project
  • California Fish & Wildlife and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to intervene immediately and enforce federal protections
  • All local and state agencies to oppose development in active bald eagle nesting zones

We understand the need for housing, but it must be done responsibly, not at the cost of wildlife already fighting to survive.

Jackie and Shadow can’t speak for themselves. But we can.
