When I started this petition, it was to protect a cherished green space at Shepherds Close in the Highgate Conservation Area — a vital urban “green lung” under constant threat from speculative development.
Since then, what I’ve uncovered reveals something much bigger.
In Norfolk, at Tamar Nurseries, a similar — yet even more alarming — pattern has emerged:
A mature willow tree was felled without consent and omitted from planning records (now under police investigation);
Over 6 million litres of undeclared water infrastructure has been installed in a floodplain;
No biodiversity surveys. No abstraction licence. No drainage impact assessment;
A landowner-led Drainage Board issued private consents without transparency or oversight.
These are not isolated cases. They are part of a systemic failure — a planning system where enforcement is weak, nature is sacrificed, and public voices are bypassed.
This is a microcosm moment: local struggles exposing a national crisis in how we protect our land, wildlife, and future.
I’ve updated this petition to reflect the wider reality we now face — and I ask you to stay with me.
Together, we’re calling not only for the protection of Shepherds Close but for:
A national review of planning and drainage abuses
Public oversight of quasi-private boards like the IDB
Enforcement of environmental law before it’s too late
🌍 If you can, please share the petition again. Talk to others. This isn’t just about one tree or one field. It’s about the system that’s meant to protect them — and all of us.
With deep thanks for your continued support,
Aisha
