The Issue
(English) The intentions of Ktizo United Church of Christ offering a hydration station to assist the homeless community are certainly noble, yet the reality of these actions has led to unintended consequences that directly affect the well-being of Wishing Well Village residents. Offering hydration services in our neighborhood, as well as near Imagine Schools Cortez Park and other surrounding public spaces, has unfortunately resulted in a surge of homeless encampments.

(English) This increase in homeless presence brings with it an array of challenges for our community, including litter, drug usage, theft, break-ins, vandalization and ultimately a decrease in property values. These issues have significantly impacted the safety and quality of life for the families and children residing in the neighborhood. As tax-paying citizens, we are witnessing a decline in our community's safety and hygiene, and these developments are causing distress and apprehension among parents and residents alike. Issues that the church does not take responsibility for, but instead receives a large payment from the city.

Therefore, we urge Ktizo United Church of Christ to reconsider the location of their hydration station initiative. Providing these services further away from sensitive areas such as schools and residential neighborhoods can help address homelessness more effectively without compromising the safety and comfort of Wishing Well Village inhabitants.
