I'm writing this petition with an urgency that stems from witnessing the alarming marginalization and neglect of transgender healthcare in the state of Florida. Our state is grappling with a concerning disregard for the health and well-being of the transgender community—a demographic already facing significant obstacles when accessing necessary medical services.

When one searches "transgender" on the Florida Department of Health website, no results can be found. "Oophorectomy" also has no page.

"SB 254, defended by Ladapo, also imposed severe restrictions on transgender adults, including requiring in‑person physician visits and banning nurse practitioners from providing care.

Florida's current broken and dysfunctional healthcare system demonizes and "gatekeeps" transgender-affirming hormone therapy and surgery for all ages including adults also, whilst encouraging dangerous "detransition" and "conversion therapy" quack medicine.

The current Florida Department of Health, led by Joseph Ladapo, has made choices that are distressingly clear in their disregard for transgender patients. Ladapo is known for his strong anti-vaccine stance and similarly anti-transgender views, fostering an environment of discrimination and misinformation. When leaders perpetuate lies and fabricate statistics to demonize essential healthcare services, they not only harm vulnerable groups but fuel an atmosphere of prejudice similar to the very worst of historical religious hysteria—dangerously echoing past scapegoating of Jewish communities.

This type of neglect and demonization results in real harm to transgender individuals. Essential healthcare services are either unavailable or stigmatized to the point of being inaccessible, leading to detrimental effects on both their physical and mental health. Discrimination and refusal of care within healthcare settings is a common reality for many transgender patients across Florida, with a real impact being seen in their overall wellbeing. This must stop now, and it must start with holding our health officials accountable for promoting equality and truthful information.

It's essential to push for policies affirming the rights of transgender individuals to receive unbiased, fact-based medical care. We must implore the Florida Department of Health to adopt evidence-based practices and ensure healthcare providers are trained to offer compassionate, competent care to transgender patients.

The impact of neglecting transgender healthcare is profound: higher rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide are rampant within a community already at the margin. By addressing these healthcare inequities head-on, we not only save lives but validate the humanity and dignity of our transgender friends, neighbours, and family members.
