The Issue

My name is Erica McGehee, and I am an American consumer who is fed up with paying top dollar for food that is often nothing more than scraps, fillers, and chemicals. The American people have a fundamental right to know exactly what we are putting into our bodies. For too long, consumers have been kept in the dark. We are paying premium prices while being served food that is increasingly processed, altered, and packed with additives that most people cannot even pronounce. As citizens and consumers, we refuse to accept a food system where what we eat can quietly become a threat to our health. The FDA and USDA must be held accountable for allowing a marketplace where foods can contain fillers, artificial ingredients, and chemically altered substances while still being marketed as wholesome and natural. Products like meats can include fillers such as mechanically separated chicken or soy-based additives. Fruits and vegetables are often coated with waxes or treated with chemicals designed to alter their appearance and shelf life rather than prioritize their nutritional value. These practices raise serious concerns. Over time, highly processed foods and chemical additives have been linked to rising levels of obesity, inflammation, digestive disorders, and chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. Consumers deserve transparency, honesty, and integrity in the food supply. We demand full and clear transparency on every food label so that Americans know exactly what ingredients and additives they are consuming. Every chemical, filler, and processing agent must be disclosed in plain language that the public can understand. No more hidden ingredients. No more misleading labels. If companies wish to sell real food, they should be required to provide real information. If products contain fillers or artificial ingredients, consumers must be informed and pricing should reflect the true quality of what is being sold. This is not just about food—it is about public health, consumer rights, and trust. The American people should never have to question whether the food they are feeding their families is safe or honest. The time for change is now. The breach of trust between regulators, corporations, and the American public must end. Until transparency, accountability, and integrity are restored to our food system, consumers will continue to demand answers and action. Our health matters. Our families matter. And the truth about our food matters
