Stop Data Mining to Protect Consumer Privacy

Stop Data Mining to Protect Consumer Privacy
The Issue
My identity was stolen in one of the hundreds of large data breaches that have occurred since 1984. As someone personally affected, I understand the devastating impact data mining, selling, and sharing can have on individuals. Each day, personal data is harvested without our consent, packaged, and sold to the highest bidder. This breaches our privacy and significantly increases the risk of identity theft, affecting millions of people globally.
Identity theft impacts nearly 15 million individuals each year, resulting in financial losses of over $16 billion. Yet, companies continue to prioritize profit over privacy, putting every consumer at risk. The unchecked practice of data brokering must stop to safeguard our identities.
We call on government agencies and lawmakers to implement stricter regulations on how companies collect, store, and sell customer data. Rigorous penalties for violations and transparent disclosure practices will deter companies from mishandling personally identifiable information. Additionally, consumers should have the right to opt out of data sharing and demand the deletion of data collected without their consent.
Protecting consumer privacy is not only a fundamental right but a necessary step in reducing the growing threat of identity theft. Let's stand together and urge our legislators to prioritize our privacy. We must take action now to prevent future breaches and safeguard our identities from falling into the wrong hands.
Sign this petition to demand the cessation of data mining, selling, and sharing practices by organizations that compromise our personal information and expose us to identity theft. Together, we can make a difference in ensuring the safety and privacy of every individual.
